Bill Gets Tough On Farm Pollution
Sponsored by:
The state Assembly has passed a landmark series of bills to fight air pollution in the eight-county San Joaquin Valley.
The Valley is home to some of the nation´s worst air quality. The bills end agriculture´s longtime exemption from rules of the federal Clean Air Act and begins to phase out open-air agricultural burning. They also raise new money for biomass plants to burn farm waste and encourage more employees to commute together. The bills now go to the state Senate for agreement to Assembly changes, and then to Governor Davis.
