Congress to Hold Hearings on Drug Production

Sponsored by:

Congressional committees will hold a hearing in Sequoia National Park on October 10 to discuss the growing problem of drug production on public lands.

Park officials say they have noticed an increase in drug production in national parks and forests since September eleventh, when border control tightened. They say armed drug dealers are defending their illegal crops in places used by hikers and park visitors.

Since last year authorities have eradicated hundreds of thousands of marijuana plants and hundreds of methamphetamine labs and toxic dump sites on public lands nationwide.

Authorities believe Mexican organized crime groups are running major marijuana operations in the Sierra Nevada.
