Governor Gray Davis has denied parole to a Southern California woman who murdered the man who bought her as a sex slave when she was 16. Maria Suarez, now 42, was sentenced to 25 years to life in the 1981 murder of Anselmo Covarrubias. He took Suarez into his home, raped her repeatedly, and over five years controlled her emotionally, physically and financially. Last month, the Board of Prison Terms said Suarez posed little danger to the public. But Davis overruled that conclusion. It´s the seventh time Davis has reversed the board´s recommendation to free a battered woman who killed her abuser.
