Watch Who You Kiss
Kissing can be dangerous, at least for people who have food allergies. Rosemary Hallett of U.C. Davis, and two colleagues reviewed the cases of 379 people who were allergic to seeds or nuts. Twenty had an allergic reaction after kissing someone, reportedly after that person had eaten something they were allergic to.
In most cases, the reaction was mild, causing itching and swelling in the area kissed. In four cases, the patients experienced wheezing. But in one case, a three year old boy had to be rushed to the hospital after his mother who had tasted pea soup kissed him on the cheek.
The researchers say teenagers and young adults should be warned because often reactions occur while dating. And you thought it was “love.”
