A retired priest accused of raping a Massachusetts boy is scheduled to appear today in a San Diego courtroom.
The Reverend Paul Shanley will answer to felony fugitive charges and undergo a hearing to extradite him to Massachusetts. That´s where prosecutors say the former clergyman sexually assaulted a Massachusetts boy over a seven-year period while serving as a parish priest in a Boston suburb.
Shanley´s alleged victim, who is now 24, said this week that he was abused on almost a weekly basis from 1983 to 1990. Shanley was arrested at his apartment in San Diego yesterday.
