Mount Baldy Village residents forced to evacuate days ago because of the Williams Canyon wildfire are heading back home. A US Forest Service spokeswoman says an evacuation order was lifted at 7:00 pm yesterday, clearing the way for residents to go home. The blaze has scorched more than 36,500 acres since it broke out September 22nd. It has destroyed 76 homes, cabins and other buildings. Fire officials say light rain, cooler temperatures and low winds in recent days have helped douse the fire, which is now 90% contained. Full containment is expected by 6:00 pm. The cost of fighting the fire is estimated at nearly $15 million. The cause is under investigation.
