In the Mother Lode Chains or snow tires were required on most upper elevation roads today.

Nearly a dozen elementary and high schools gave student a three day pre Christmas holiday weekend by keeping doors closed for classes this morning.Rain and snow continued again Friday afternoon into the early evening.

And there´s no let up in sight just yet.

Forecasters expect several inches of snow in higher elevations and at least a few inches in lower elevations in the far north. More than a foot of snow was expected in the eastern Sierra. Snow showers are forecast through tomorrow with some clearing by Sunday as shoppers head out for their last weekend fling before Christmas.
