Police To Pay Settlement

The city of Sacramento will pay $800,000 to the family of a man killed by police who say they thought the man’s cell phone was a gun. The shooting last year of an African-American by a young white police officer set off protests by the city’s African-American community. It also sparked investigations that led to police department policy changes.
Sacramento attorneys said the city settled to avoid even higher payments should the city lose a jury trial.
