A Camp Pendleton marine pleaded innocent today to charges that he killed a California Highway Patrol
officer while driving under the influence. A judge ordered Lance Corporal Jerome Bates of Victoria, Texas, held on one million dollars bail.
Police say
Bates was returning home early Sunday after a night of drinking in Tijuana, when he slammed into a C-H-P patrol car. Officer Stephen Linen Junior, who was
writing a ticket at the time, was struck and killed. A funeral service for Officer Linen is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a-m in Oceanside.
