Fire chiefs say Americans should replace smoke alarm batteries tonight at the same time they change their clocks for standard time. Most Americans “fall back´´ an hour to return to standard time at two a-m Sunday.
Each year, about six-thousand people die in home fires. More than 80 percent of those deaths are in home fires that don´t have a working smoke alarm. Usually it´s just a matter of a dead battery.
