Possible Trash Rate Hike

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Sonora city garbage rates could go up 53 cents a month. Cal Sierra Disposal will ask the city council on Monday for a 2.38 percent jump in the trash collection rate. If approved, customers would pay $22.76 a month starting September 1st. The rates are based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which is part of the City’s Franchise Agreement.

In addition, the Council will hold public hearings on the annual report for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) which funds the City’s Microenterprise Assistance Program. It will include the Program Income Annual Report which funds the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program. The city says the hearings are being conducted to set priorities for CDBG program applications for fiscal year 2013-2014 and to get feedback on programs funded by the CDBG.

The Council will get a scheduling update on the Mono Way widening project. Also, it will hear a proposal to accept an AAA $5,000 donation to the City’s Fire Department and authorize the Fire Chief to use the money to buy a large diameter water supply hoses.

The meeting will start at 5pm at City Hall on Monday.
