Progress On Power Fire
Pinecrest, CA — Officials report that a DC-10 tanker was a big help in slowing the expansion of the Power Fire.
“The fire is in a very steep terrain, so access and getting hand crews in there has been difficult,” says Dion Mynatt, Power Fire Spokesperson. “Yesterday we had a DC-10 make a drop on the fire, dropping 12,000 gallons of retardant. Today the DC-10 is not with us, because we are getting a pretty good control of the fire.”
“Of course things can always change with weather, but things are looking pretty good today after he made that one drop,” adds Mynatt.
The Forest Service reports that the Power Fire is still 881 acres and around 32% contained. 447 firefighters remain on scene this morning. There are 15 engines, 34 hand crews, 5 helicopters and 8 water tenders.
There are approximately 100 homes that officials are still concerned about in the area, but no evacuations have been called for at this time.
Agencies involved in battling the fire include the US Forest Service, Cal-Fire, Tuolumne County Fire, California Highway Patrol, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, CalTrans, PG&E and Tri-Dam.
