TUD Water Woes

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Tuolumne Utilities District (TUD) customers are being asked to voluntarily curb their water use. Today at a special meeting, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to implement Phase II Water Conservation Measures. Much of this phase consists of TUD informing its customers that the water supply is low and they need to cut back on their usage. The board also voted to hold a public hearing on January 28 to vote on whether to enact Phase III Mandatory Conservation Measures.

TUD General Manager Tom Scesa says, “We are not just talking about getting through the summer. We have to get (by) until the next time it significantly rains. On that first rain, the grounds will probably not give up much of that water if any.”

Scesa also warned the board that rate increases could be needed during phase III to help with water conservation. He plans to give more details on that at the 5:30 p.m. public hearing at the TUD building off Tuolumne Road. Click here for an earlier story outlining the proposed water restrictions.
