Update: Red Flag Warning For The Stanislaus National Forest

Sponsored by:

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Stanislaus National Forest, which is in effect until 9 PM tonight.

Areas of gusty wind will continue today as low pressure moves through. Combined with lower humidity and extremely dry fuels, critical fire weather conditions are in place over the Northern Sierra Nevada.

Minimum humidity is in the single digits to teens.

Southwest wind ranging from ten to twenty mph are expected with gusts up to thirty-five mph. The strongest winds are expected over the higher terrain and through favorable oriented canyons. The wind will shift to the west northwest late today, before decreasing this evening.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Lighter northerly wind is expected Friday as the temperatures warm and the humidity lowers.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
