CHP Holiday Road Enforcements
Sonora, CA — California Highway Patrol’s Christmas holiday Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) ticked away Sunday just before midnight and the local figures are in.
Officer Jaime Castillo of the San Andreas CHP was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
According to Castillo, San Andreas CHP had no DUI collisions and one solo DUI arrest over the period. He reported that CHP investigated seven different traffic collisions, one of which was a fatality, as reported earlier. The incident is still under investigation. Of three injury-causing accidents, one involved a snowmobile collision up in the Alpine-Bear Valley area.
According to Officer Jason Austin, the Sonora area CHP made six DUI arrests between 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Sunday, Dec 28 at 11:59 p.m. Austin added, “We had no fatal accidents and a total of nine traffic collisions…I’d say it’s about average for this time of year.”
Law enforcement officials additionally issued 40 citations, Castillo stated, five of them for not wearing seatbelts, as well as multiple speeding tickets.
Castillo reminds motorists that CHP will have another MEP beginning tonight at 6 p.m. through Sunday, Jan. 4 at 11:59 p.m.
Unlike past years, there are no new rules for the road going into 2015.
According to Castillo, there are just two minor changes one of which involves driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants and the the other rule involves limousine modifications.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 AM.
