County To Award Juvenile Hall Contract

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County will vote whether award a $15.3 million contract for the construction of the Mother Lode Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.

10 companies submitted bids, and county staff is recommending that the Board of Supervisors award a contract to F&H Construction. The county reports that the lowest bid actually came from Diede Construction, but the company failed to use the correct bid proposal form. The company has filed an appeal to the county arguing that this is a minor informality, and it should be waived. Diede’s bid was $15,082,000.

The various other bids ranged up to $17,195,000. In 2009, the County was awarded $16-million in state grant funding to build the facility. It will be the first building at the Law and Justice Center property off Old Wards Ferry Road. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held sometime this spring. Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting starts at 9am in the board meeting room. You can watch the live video in the multimedia section of myMotherLode.com, brought to you by Blue Mountain Minerals.
