Berryhill’s CEQA Reform Bill Denied
Sacramento, CA — A CEQA reform bill introduced by Mother Lode Senator Tom Berryhill has failed a committee test.
Berryhill says SB 389 would have eliminated duplicative environmental review steps, and put restrictions on CEQA related lawsuits. It failed to pass out of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee on a party-line vote, with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed.
Berryhill says, “My colleagues continue to bless CEQA exemptions for sports venues but can’t seem to find their way to offer the same consideration to the average Joe trying to start a business, or for communities trying to open a library, or affordable housing projects.”
The legislation was endorsed by groups like the California Chamber of Commerce.
