Some Central Calaveras Firefighters Lost Their Own Homes
One heartbreaking story from the Butte Fire includes eleven firefighters of Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue, who lost their own homes, while they were trying to save other homes and property from the devastating fire.
Central Calaveras Fire Chief Jeff Stone was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
A total of eleven of the forty members of Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue lost their houses.
A fund has been set up to help them so that they can eventually get back on their feet again and continue to protect and serve the CCFRPD area.
Central Calaveras Fire (Central Fire) is a primarily volunteer department. With one paid Fire Captain, one paid Administrative Assistant and a part time paid Fire Chief. Central Fire depends on its volunteers to staff and respond to calls in our large district.
According to Stone, “Not only do these hard working volunteers need and deserve the help, we all really need to make sure they stay in the area. The fire may be almost over but all of us still need a fire department – especially one this experienced and dedicated.”
Calaveras Fire & Rescue is the principal fire agency in the areas most affected; Glencoe, Rail Road Flat, Mountain Ranch and Sheep Ranch and is the area’s only year round fire department.
Tomorrow morning (Saturday) a pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held at the Mountain Ranch Community Hall in Downtown Mountain Ranch. The hours are from 8 to 10:30 AM.
