Free Flood Control Resources For Mother Lode Residents

Sonora, CA — As more heavy rains are moving in to further soak already sodden local terrain, Tuolumne and Calaveras counties are again offering free flood prevention and erosion control tools.

According to Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson, residents will need to bring their own bags and shovels and may load up as sand as needed from the following locations:

–Columbia – Columbia Airport, 10723 Airport Road (at the end of the parking lot, right-hand side)

–Jamestown – Jamestown Yard, 18188 7th Ave. (near the corner of 7th & 8th streets)

–Big Oak Flat – Big Oak Flat Yard, 11240 Wards Ferry Road

–Tuolumne – Tuolumne Yard, 18870 Birch St. (near the corner of Birch and Baker streets and also at the end of Chestnut, behind the firehouse)

In Calaveras County, sand and gravel, along with bags remain are readily available at the locations below (note that some of these close at 3:30 p.m.):

–Arnold · Arnold Maintenance Yard, 11191 Linebaugh Road (closes at 3:30 p.m.)

–Glencoe · Glencoe Maintenance Yard, 16151 Hwy 26 (closes at 3:30 p.m.)

–Jenny Lind · Jenny Lind Yard, 11558 Milton Road (closes at 3:30 p.m.)

–Mountain Ranch · Mountain Ranch Community Park, Washington Street

–Murphys · Fire Station, 37 Jones Street
