Rains Fail To Dampen Butte Fire Recovery Progress

San Andreas, CA — The weekend’s drenching rains apparently did not hamper Butte Fire debris removal crews from the goal of wrapping up work by mid-month.

Calaveras County government officials report that crews were able to safely maintain their seven-day work schedule through the wet weekend. At last check on Thursday, ahead of the most recent bout of stormy weather, burn debris removal had been completed on 95 percent of the 824 participating properties.

The most recent data also indicates that soil samples are approved for 580 of the parcels; completed erosion control measures are in place on 503. With the program end drawing near fewer crews are needed in the burn scar officials say, so the program is also approaching its demobilization stage.

While the “final” deadline to sign up for the debris removal program was ten days ago, Calaveras County government spokesperson Sharon Torrence has walked that back a bit, stating some additional properties may be still admitted and addressed on a case by case basis.
