Angels Close To Adopting Medical Marijuana Grow Regs
Angels Camp, CA — Following a well-attended public hearing in Bret Harte High Theater, the City of Angels City Council continues to move towards imposing an outright ban on growing medical marijuana within city limits.
As previously reported here, city officials, who remain torn over the subject, still have serious concerns about permitting cultivation within its relatively constrained jurisdiction. City Attorney Derek Cole states he and the council were gratified by what turned out to be a very respectful and civil public session Tuesday evening during which members of the public from all perspectives spoke. Summarizing, he states, “There were probably about 20 speakers, and after hearing from all…the council did vote to introduce the ordinance with a 4-1 vote…that means that, basically, there is one more step to go, which will be the formal approval, the consideration of which is set for April 19th.”
After the public hearing and vote, in which Vice Mayor Amanda Folendorf cast the only nay, the council reintroduced a previously drafted ordinance that would prohibit medical pot grows as well as keep the city out of the business of approving or granting any localized permits, licenses or other entitlements for growing. Cole says he and the council anticipate a significant turn out and more opinions from the public as the proposed ordinance heads to its second reading at the April 19 meeting.
