T.U.D. Will Discuss Proposed New Reservoir

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The T.U.D. Board of Directors will vote whether to approve a timeline for the development of a feasibility study and environmental analysis related to the construction of a new reservoir adjacent to the district’s Sierra Pines Property.

T.U.D. would need to acquire the extra land, near Twain Harte, from PG&E. The district has been discussing the idea with PG&E for several years but has not been in a position to fund the environmental and feasibility studies until now. The district has budgeted $150,000 in fiscal year 2017 for the project. The proposed reservoir would hold somewhere between 350-850 acre ft. of water, which could provide the district with 6-12 weeks of water in the event of a catastrophic situation, such as the loss of a flume. The water could also be utilized during ditch outages.

The proposal before the T.U.D. Board calls for the feasibility study scope for the project to begin in August and things would wrap up in summer of 2018 with the completion of the Environmental Analysis/EIR. The property acquisition would then likely come in September of 2018. The item is on today’s T.U.D. meeting agenda. The meeting will get underway at 2pm at the District Office on Nugget Blvd.
