Motorcycle Crash Shows Need For Heightened Awareness

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — This past warm sunny weekend that beckoned bikers to the Mother Lode roads resulted in at least one injury, according to CHP officials.

Saturday just after 1:30 p.m., 69-year-old James Wallentin of Los Osos was reportedly headed west on Highway 4 just west of Pool Station Road along a curvy stretch known as “The Wagon Trail,” riding his 2002 Harley Davidson at about 45 miles-per-hour when he drifted off, hit the shoulder and laid the bike down. Responders transported him to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Neither alcohol or drugs were considered a factor in the crash.

Law and safety officials reiterate that due to the annual sudden surge in motorcycle riders this time of year, May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. As reported here, they point to a need for motorcyclists and motorists alike to heighten their caution, follow the posted speeds, be aware of the new lane-splitting law that is now in force — and safely share the roads.
