Five Vehicles Involved In Calaveras DUI Crash: Ripon Man Arrested
Copperopolis, CA — A Ripon man was arrested for allegedly causing a five-vehicle wreck on Highway 4 near Hunt Road in Calaveras County.
The CHP reports that 47-year-old David Michael Barnett was driving a 2002 Ford truck, pulling a boat trailer, and he drifted into the opposing lane of Highway 4. He hit two oncoming Harley Davidson motorcycles, resulting in four major injuries. Taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto were 61-year-old Victor Anthony Law, 57-year-old Catherine Law, 56-year-old Christopher C. Caison and 54-year-old Debra Babauta Caison, all of Castro Valley. Two other oncoming vehicles got caught up in the wreck, a 2013 Mini Cooper and a 2014 Honda, resulting in minor injuries to one additional person.
The CHP reports that Barnett was transported to Mark Twain Medical Center to treat “moderate injuries” and later arrested for DUI. The crash, which occurred Saturday at 2:25pm, remains under investigation.
