California Senators Grill Social Media Reps On Capitol Hill

Sponsored by:

Washington D.C. — California Senator Diane Feinstein was among the lawmakers from the Senate Intelligence Committee grilling executives from Facebook, Google and Twitter about social media’s roll in putting out advertisements linked to Russia during the last election cycle. The state’s senior Democratic Senator commented, “It was with some surprise that I saw how the Russians got into this. How they proceeded over a period of time and their real ingress into the system. These companies are going to have to adjust what they do to meet the national security concerns of the nation because you clearly cannot have the internet used to interfere with an election.”

Also firing questions at the company representatives was Democrat Senator Kamala Harris who asked how much the companies have profited from Russia propaganda, which none of them were able give an amount. Both Senators indicated that not enough has been done to prevent Russia from meddling in future elections.
