State Grant Awards More Than $12 Million For Homelessness Efforts
Sacramento, CA – A state housing grant to battle the homelessness crisis in California brings millions to Mother Lode rural communities.
Mother Lode Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil, a Republican from Jackson, has announced $12.4 million in funding from the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Homeless Housing and Assistance Prevention Program (HHAP) to address homelessness in counties across her Senate District, which includes Tuolumne, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Amador counties. Those counties will each get a share of just over 2 million dollars.
The funding is part of the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program, which promotes community-wide planning and strategic resource use to address homelessness. The 37 California regions awarded HHAP funds have approved plans that prioritize permanent housing solutions and sustaining existing interim housing. Grants were awarded to the following counties in Senate District 4:
- Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, and Tuolumne – $2,059,676.24
- Placer – $1,997,688.73
- Inyo, Mono – $247,950.12
- Merced – $2,209,009.84
- Stanislaus – $5,891,632.09
Alvarado-Gil’s office touts that she has consistently championed commonsense programs, focusing on collaborative, practical solutions. They point to Stanislaus County, where she worked closely with local law enforcement to advocate for “hand-up” solutions over costly “hand-outs,” which further burden the state’s deficit.
