Update: HWY 49 Reopened After Crash Halts In Tuolumne County

Update at 2:30 p.m.: The CHP reports that a jackknifed semi at the hairpin turn on Highway 49 in the Tuttletown area has been removed and traffic is moving freely once again.  The roadway was completely shutdown for about 45 minutes as a tow crew worked to remove the semi and debris from the roadway.Traffic was backed up for miles accoring to callers to Clarke Broadcasting.

Original post at 1:50 p.m.: Tuttletown, CA — A traffic alert for motorists traveling Highway 49 in the Tuttletown area of Tuolumne County.

The CHP is on the scene of a jackknifed big rig in the southbound lane at the hairpin turn near Jackass Hill Road. The roadway is completely shut down as tow crews are working to remove the semi and debris from the roadway. The CHP reports the highway could be close for 30 minutes up to an hour.

Caltrans has set up a detour for motorist to take 49 to Parrotts Ferry Road. Traffic is extremely backed up according to callers to Clarke Broadcasting. We’ll keep you update on the road’s condition as soon as new information comes into the news center.
