Update: Sheriff’s Office Investigated Threat At Columbia Elementary

Update at 12pm: Providing additional details about today’s lockdown at Columbia Elementary School, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Andrea Benson says, “Our office received a call this morning just after 9:45 AM from Columbia Elementary School reporting information received from a student regarding threats of violence made by a high school student. The high school student made a threat to a sibling that he was going to “blow up” the school. Deputies responded and searched the campus and surrounding areas. School administrators placed Columbia Elementary on a precautionary lockdown during the investigation.”

Sgt. Benson adds, “Deputies located the high school student nearby at a friend’s home in the Roll-In Mobile Home Park on S. Airport Road in Columbia. After the investigation the threat was deemed not credible. The students and campus are safe.

Update at 11:40am: The high school student that allegedly made a threat that prompted a lockdown this morning at Columbia Elementary School has been located by deputies.

Sgt. Andrea Benson tells Clarke Broadcasting, “The student responsible for the threat made is speaking with deputies now. The threat made regarding the student being in possession of a possible bomb was not credible and the students and campus are safe.”

Original story posted at 11am: Columbia, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Columbia Elementary School has been placed on a precautionary lockdown after a student reported “threats of violence” made by a high school student.

Limited details are available, but there is a law enforcement presence the school. Sgt. Andrea Benson says, “Deputies are on campus, and school administrators have placed Columbia Elementary on a precautionary lockdown during the investigation. Our office partners closely with Tuolumne County Schools to ensure the safety of all students and staff. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide you with additional information as it develops.”

Students and staff are staying put in the classroom. No additional information is immediately available. Deputies are also working to make contact with the high school student who made the alleged threats.
