Update: Vegetation Fires Ignite Off Highway 108 Stopped

Update at 4:35 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the Owl Fire burning along Highway 108 west of Keystone is now 50 percent contained and remains an estimated 120 acres. Crews continue to work on full containment and will then mop up while checking for hotspots. What sparked this blaze is under investigation.

Update at 12:39 p.m.: CAL Fire updates that crews have stopped the forward spread of the Owl Fire that started as two separate vegetation fires that merged into one, totaling about 120 acres in the area of Highway 108 west of Keystone, with no structures threatened. Crews will remain on scene to gain full containment, which is currently at 25 percent, per CAL Fire, then mop up while checking for hotspots. What ignited this blaze is under investigation.

Update at 12:10 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the Owl Fire is holding steady at 120 acres and that crews have gained 25-percent containment.

Update and below written by BJ Hansen at 11:57 am: CAL Fire has updated the size estimate of the Owl Fire to 120 acres. There is no containment, and crews are working to stop the forward spread. No structures are threatened.

Update at 11:32 am: Officials continue to battle the Owl Fire that ignited in the area of Highway 108, west of Keystone, in the Jamestown area. CAL Fire reports that it is currently holding at 60 acres. There is still no containment. Air and ground resources remain on the scene. No structures are threatened.

Update 11:05 am: CAL Fire reports that the size estimate of the Owl Fire is 45 acres and there is no containment. Additional resources are arriving on the scene.

Update at 10:55 am: The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Owl Fire off Highway 108 in the Jamestown area is 45-50 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Deputies are in the area assisting. There are no structures currently threatened.

It is being jointly referred to as the Owl Fire. Air and ground resources are on the scene. There are no immediate reports of any structures being at risk. Be prepared for activity in the area.
