Caltrans Roadwork On HWY 108, 120 and 49, J-59 Is Open

While there’s a good deal of Caltrans roadwork on the Mother Lode highways this week the good news is J-59 has reopened. Caltrans crews warn of several cone zones scheduled this Monday through Friday, including some overnight ones. They also warn this schedule may change due to weather.

Expect ten-minute delays for drainage work along a seven-mile stretch of Highway 120 work zones: between the Stanislaus/Tuolumne county line and the end of the divided highway from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and at night, weather permitting, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.; also, from the county line to westbound to Highway 49 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.

There are cone zones for drainage work on Highway 120 between Grizzley Road and Moccasin Creek bridge from 8 am until 3 pm, west of Lost Claim Camp Ground and also at Cliff House Road.

On Highway 49 expect delays for road striping Monday through Friday from 8 am until 4 pm from the Tuolumne/Calaveras County Line to Jack Page Road. More Highway 49 road striping work in Tuolumne will be done from Cattle Guard Road to Montezuma Road, causing 10 minute delays.

On Highway 49 from the Bagby/Bear Valley area halfway between Mariposa and Coulterville to the HWY 49/HWY120 junction in Moccasin allow for 10 minute delays as the shoulder will be closed for crews to clean and inspect drainage areas.

Highway 59 is now open in Merced County. It re-opened Friday morning between Mission Avenue in Merced and Sandy Mush Road after the flooding-related closure at Mariposa Creek. The water level of Mariposa Creek safely subsided by Friday morning allowing for the bridge to be properly inspected.

As reported here, Highway 26 will remain closed from Deardorff Road to Wood House Mine Road. The closure affects those traveling between Glencoe and West Point in Calaveras. Trees and debris from 12 rockslides have been cleared but a slide near the south fork of the Mokelumne River Bridge has shutdown the road for two to three weeks to focus on an estimated $2.4 million in emergency repairs. Caltrans spokesperson Warren Alford said the plan is to try to have one-way traffic control while the repairs are finished.

In Valley Springs at Quail Oaks Drive and HWY 26 expect intermittent full highway closures for utility work. The work is scheduled between 7 AM and 5 PM Thursday, February 28 and Friday, March 1.
