Sonora Celtic Fair And More Events This Weekend
There are events going on this weekend and the Sonora Business Expo will begin tonight Thursday, March 7th from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sonora Opera Hall. The event is put on by the Valley Sierra Small Business Development Center which serves Tuolumne, Mariposa, Stanislaus and Merced Counties. Tiffany Phillips, the Business Adviser for the organization, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” as covered here. The Sonora Business Expo event is free to the public, Human Resources expert Steve Keyzers will be talking about the new employment laws. Officer Ashley Brandow from the Sonora Police Department will be speaking on preventing business theft.
Mountain Youth and Community Theatre will present ‘Under the Big Top’ this weekend. Kyla Hatler directs a 50 person cast which includes performers from age 7 to adult. Details are here. East Sonora Sierra Repertory Theatre continues performances of A Chorus Line and next weekend Route 66 opens at SRT’s Fallon House.
Patrick Michael Karnahan, Founder and CEO of the Sonora Celtic Faire’s Founder was also a KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”. The 33rd Sonora Celtic Fair begins at 9:30 a.m. otomorrow, and opens on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. The set-up crew is working to put straw on any muddy areas and there are no reports of damage from the river yesterday. The weather forecast is partly sunny with a snow warning for the sierras. Friday is family day when many school children visit to learn from hundreds of costumed performers and craftsmen re-enacting Celtic History, music, stories and dance. In the arena will be the International Ultimate Jousting Championships. The entertainment includes music on several stages, armored combat, juggling, and dancers with a lot to see in buildings or undercover if it rains. Friday Flix at the Oprah hall has been moved to next Friday but 2nd Saturday Art Night sponsored by the Sonora Chamber of Commerce is this Saturday. Downtown shops and art gallerias will be open late and local musicians will be at various locations playing music.
