Theft and Car Chase in Calaveras

Sponsored by:

Vallecito, CA — Calaveras Sheriff Deputies recently arrested James Moser after a brief car chase on Parrot’s Ferry Road. A call into the sheriff department reported someone stealing scrap metal from private property. The deputy investigating the area found a large amount of scrap metal, vehicles and appliances. A car was observed leaving the scene and the Calaveras deputy followed in pursuit but was later passed at a high rate of speed by the same vehicle.

The man, later identified as 33 year old James Moser III, did pull over for a traffic stop.

During the interview with the suspect, the deputy found Moser to be under the influence of drugs. Moser admitted he did not have permission to be on property, but was there hoping to find scrap metal and other items. He said that he evaded the deputy because he was scared.

The deputy located a loaded handgun and short-barreled shotgun concealed under the front seat of the vehicle. In addition there were a large number of prescription medications not belonging to Moser as well as burglary tools (bolt cutters, pry bars, drills) also in the vehicle.

Moser was booked on multiple charges into the Calaveras County jail.

The Sheriff’s Detective Division is looking in to possible connections to other thefts in the area.
