One Arrest Leads To Another

Valley Springs, CA — What started as a high speed chase in Valley Springs, led to six people being arrested or charged for criminal activity.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a pickup truck Wednesday near Daphne Street because it had expired registration tags. The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Eric Sosa of Valley Springs, stepped on the gas and headed towards the town of Paloma. While traveling through Paloma, one of the passengers, 34-year-old Jeremy Davis of Tracy, jumped out of the moving truck. The chase then headed back towards Valley Springs, where Sosa’s truck eventually came to a stop because of a mechanical failure.

Sosa and a passenger, 22-year-old Eric Hotvedt of Valley Springs, were both detained. Sosa was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. He now faces charges related to drug possession and resisting arrest. Hotvedt was released and does not face any criminal charges.

Additional detectives and deputies later went to a home were Sosa had been residing to look for Davis, and he was quickly captured and arrested.

While searching Sosa’s home, additional people inside were arrested on charges not related to the pursuit. 30-year-old Iran Cortes of Stockton was found in possession of personal identification information of 30-40 people, including social security numbers, dates of birth and names. The Sheriff’s Office reports that she was also in possession of medical records of 30-40 people, which can be used when carrying out identity theft crimes. 23-year-old Jewel Valdes of Manteca was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. 29-year-old Brandon Wisuri of Stockton was found to be a state parolee, and was arrested on a parole hold. 32-year-old Joseph Camacho was in possession of methamphetamine, and he was cited and released. The others were booked into Calaveras County Jail.
