Business Organizations Merge
The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce is taking over the operations of the county’s Economic Development Company.
Chamber Director Diane Gray made the announcement of the merger. “We’re really thrilled because our missions are similar, and our work has always overlapped,” says Gray. “It seemed like a really good idea to combine the two organizations.”
The Economic Development Corporation will operate out of the Chamber’s office in San Andreas. The Economic Development Agency originated in 1981, and then faded away in 2003. In 2009 local business leaders, led by Dave Haley of Castle and Cooke, re-energized the EDC and created the Calaveras Profile. The EDC also recently created a five year plan designed to lure high tech businesses to the county.
Chamber President Jeff Davidson plans to present information and an action plan to the Calaveras County Supervisors on May 22nd.
