Further Details As Fires Subside

A blaze in Stanislaus National Forest Moore Creek area has been contained. The fire was reported at 3pm yesterday and grew to 15 acres. Stanislaus Forest Public Affairs Officer, Jerry Snyder says, a group of people who may have been connected with the start of the fire have been questioned.

Crews contained the fire at 6:00 am with five engines including a Tuolumne County strike team, and 5 helicopters. Forest Officer, Jerry Snyder says those forces battled the fire for 15 hours and helped to slow the fire down. They are now watching the area for hot spots.

The Gaines Fire in Mariposa is at 1,667 acres and 75 percent containment. 13 fire engines and four fire crews plus a bulldozer and water tender are at the fire. The threat to structures is over. Evacuations will be lifted at 9:00 pm and all Corbets Creek area residents will be allowed to return to their homes. Most road closures will be lifted at 9:00 pm. barricades are in place on Mt. Gaines Road.

There is still a threat to high voltage power lines within the fire perimeter.
