New Year New Home

Sponsored by:

Tuolumne County, CA – Just in time to ring in the New Year, the Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County has won its first national grant to help a family get a new home. The grant is for $75,000 towards the construction of the house. The money comes as part of a 6.8 million dollar donation by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Resource Development Manager, Mary Rose Rutikanga says, “They provide 50 percent of production costs for one of the homes. Since we build duplexes the money will help pay for half of the cost of the duplex. Thrivent not only provides money, but their local chapter here must provide members to actually help us build the house.”

Rutikanga says they have already started construction on the foundation of the duplex in the Parrotts Ferry Village Development in Columbia. The duplex should be completed by the summer of 2013.

Habitat for Humanity of Tuolumne County will begin the famly selection process on January 5th. Click here for information on how to apply for a home.
