Unemployment Rate Drops

California’s unemployment rate fell below 10% for the first time in nearly four years.

The state’s rate for November was 9.8%, a decline from 10.1% in October. The last time the unemployment rate in California was below 10% was January of 2009. Sectors that posted job gains in November included trade, transportation, utilities, finance and hospitality. The Mother Lode region still hovers above the 10% threshold. Tuolumne County’s rate in November was 10.6% and Calaveras County was 11.8%. The statistics were released this morning by the California Employment Development Department.


The national unemployment rate is 7.7%.
