Groups Eye Visitors Center
Angels Camp, CA – Both the Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce and the Visitors Bureau have some interest in the Visitors Center building located in downtown Angels Camp.
The Visitors Bureau has been using the building rent free for many years, but the City Council is now requesting a fee because of the tough budget times. After failing to agree on terms and conditions of a lease, negotiations fell apart in mid-December, and the Visitors Bureau announced that it would be moving out and ending the relationship.
Earlier this month the Visitor’s Bureau indicated a willingness to reopen discussions about a possible lease. At that time the City contacted the Chamber of Commerce.
“The City invited the Chamber to submit a proposal to operate the Visitor’s Center, because they are exploring alternatives,” says Diane Gray, Chamber Director. “We did submit a proposal, and now we’ll wait to see what the next step is.”
The Visitor’s Bureau has also submitted a new proposal for using the Visitor’s Center, and the competing plans will be discussed at a City Finance Committee meeting on February 7th. The proposals have not yet been made available for public review, but are expected to be released prior to the meeting.
