Stanislaus National Forest Clean-Up Event
Sonora, CA– This Saturday, the Stanislaus National Forest will be celebrating National Public Lands Day. This annual event is a hands-on volunteer effort to improve America’s public lands.
In addition to organizing three community volunteer land and waterway clean-up activities, the Stanislaus National Forest will also be waiving fees at Forest operated campgrounds.
The first clean-up activity will be at the Trail of the Gargoyles, located on the Herring Creek Road off Highway 108 in the Summit Ranger District. Volunteers will gather at 10 a.m. at the Summit Ranger District Office at Pinecrest to replace guide posts, reroute the trail to reduce vegetation disturbance, trim branches and remove a small section of barbed wire fencing.
The second event is scheduled to clean up parts of the North Fork of the Tuolumne River beginning at 9 a.m. at the Riverside Day Use Area on Cottonwood Road in the Mi-Wok Ranger District.
Finally, the third event will start from the Calaveras Ranger District Office in Hathaway Pines at 8:30 a.m. and move out to the Manuel Peak area where volunteers will construct a trail.
“Public Lands Day provides a great opportunity for our local community to spend time enjoying their National Forest while investing a little time improving some of their favorite places.” said Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski. “Spending time in the outdoors is a perfect way to help kids burn off some calories and have fun at the same time.”
