Hathaway Pines Resident Arrested

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — A 37 year old Hathaway Pines resident was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County Jail Saturday morning.

Jeffrey Hughes was charged with speeding, reckless driving and evading a peace officer as he attempted to elude Angels Camp Police Officer Chris Adams Saturday morning at approximately 9:20.

Adams had knowledge that Hughes was driving without a valid driver’s license. When he spotted Hughes in his 1987 Chevy Camaro on Hwy 49 in Angels Camp he attempted to make contact. Hughes immediately accelerated to a high rate of speed heading eastbound on Murphys Grade Rd. Adams then lost sight of Hughes’ vehicle.

Hughes then turned east onto French Gulch Rd. Still traveling at a high rate of speed Hughes lost control of his vehicle while attempting to negotiate a sharp left hand turn. According to the C.H.P. report the Camaro drove through a barbed wire fence and subsequently struck a dirt culvert.

A resident contacted authorities and Hughes was taken into custody at a nearby residence. After being treated for a facial laceration he was booked into the County Jail.
