Groveland Opens Youth Center
Groveland, CA — A dedication ceremony was held this afternoon for the new Groveland Youth Center.
The Tuolumne County Supervisors reconvened their weekly meeting at the center and unveiled a special plague in recognition.
The Groveland Youth Center first opened in 1978 at the intersection of Ferretti Road and Bisordi Street and consisted of a double wide trailer, a small basketball court and programs for youth.
In 2006 Tuolumne County was awarded a Special Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to replace the center, and construct a new building next to Mary Laveroni Park on Hwy 120.
Groveland Youth Center Coordinator Mark Watts says, “It has been a long time coming, and this facility will provide the youth of Groveland more opportunities.”
The center will provide after school and weekend programs for the kids. It has a kitchen, games, basketball court and places to study.
