Land Use Plan Sent To Staff
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors are moving forward with creating a Land Use Plan that could assist in coordinating with state and federal agencies.
The 80 page plan was written under the guidance of District Three Supervisor Teri Murrison. The plan will now be sent to Community Development Director Bev Shane for editing, with input from CAO Craig Pedro and County Counsel.
A shortened plan will then come back to the Board of Supervisors for consideration of approval.
Proponents say the plan could aid federal and state land use decisions that affect recreation, tourism and the timber industry. It includes an emphasis on considering economic impacts, along with environmental, when making decisions on federal and state land use.
The vote to move forward was 4-1 with District One Supervisor Liz Bass in opposition.
The plan has drawn praise from groups like TuCare (Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment) and the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce. It has drawn criticism from others, including CSERC (Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center).
