Supervisors Approve Benefit Reductions
Sonora, CA — Pension reform was a major topic at today’s Tuolumne County Supervisors meeting.
The Supervisors voted to reduce benefits that many county workers receive under the Public Employees Retirement System.
It currently applies to department heads, the CAO’s Office and County Counsel. The hope is that it will be approved for other employees, pending negotiations with bargaining units.
For example, if a law enforcement worker is employed for 30 years, the person could retire after age 55 and receive 90 percent of take home pay. That number is being reduced to 60 percent.
The vote was 5-0.
