California Gasoline Consumption Up

Sacramento, CA — A new report shows that California gasoline consumption was slightly up in April, while diesel fuel consumption was down.

The figures released Thursday by the State Board of Equalization, showed that gasoline consumption in California increased by 0.6% while diesel fuel declined 7.1% in April 2010. The decline in diesel consumption was the largest since October 2009.

The average price at the pump for gasoline in California during April 2010 was $3.14 per gallon, which is an increase of 32 percent compared to last year when average price at the pump for gas was $2.38. California diesel prices were $3.21 per gallon, which is an increase of 37 percent compared to April 2009 when California diesel prices were lower at $2.34 per gallon.

The State Board of Equalization is able to monitor gallons of gasoline through tax receipts paid by fuel distributors.
