Four Candidates Seek YCCD Seat
Columbia, CA — Four candidates are hoping to fill the Area 1 seat on the Yosemite Community College District Board of Trustees.
The Board oversees Columbia College and Modesto Junior College. The open seat is currently held by Pat Dean who has decided not to seek re-election.
The candidates:
Richard (Duke) York of Jamestown is a Columbia College graduate and was named the school’s “Alumnus of the Year” in 2006. York is a Registered Civil Engineer and has worked for the Tuolumne County Public Works Department since 1999. He also served four years on the Yosemite Community College District’s Measure E Bond Oversight Committee, which monitors the progress of various improvements throughout the region.
Carolyn Lott of Sonora is a former teacher who has also served as President of the California League of Cities and the California Cities, Counties, Schools Partnership. She says she is dedicated to continuing strong vocational programs, supports coursework for transitioning to four year institutions and wants to promote life-long learning.
Ted Morgan of Murphys is a retired educator who spent 22 years teaching handicapped students and eight years serving as a Principal. Morgan favors the expansion of job training programs given the high unemployment rate. He also feels that the district needs to refine plans for serving more of the rural areas of the region.
Dr. Lynn C. Martin of Sonora taught and coached at the high school level for 23 years and later spent 19 years at Columbia College serving as an instructor, counselor, Advisor for Columbia College Associated Students and Interim Dean of Learning Support Services. Martin feels that being a YCCD Trustee would be an extension of her “lifelong educational mission.”
The General Election is coming up Tuesday.
