Tuolumne Chamber Notes New Confidence
The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Installation and Honors Banquet on Thursday night, amid new confidence in local commercial growth.
Chamber President and CEO George Segarini was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The “Best of Tuolumne County” awards will be presented during the banquet. Nominated by the public, the awards will be handed out to local individuals and businesses.
“This year we had a surprise for Citizen of the Year. A recent high school graduate, Jamie Smith is the youngest person ever selected for the honor,” said Chamber President George Segarini. “It’s usually someone in their senior years who often earns this award. Smith graduated last year and is now attending the University in Stockton.”
Other award recipients include Pete Kampa, General Manager of the Tuolumne Utilities District who will receive the Excellence in Government Award. Entrepreneur of the Year will go to Bill and Melinda McDonald, owners of MMI, Sonora and the Teacher of the Year Award will be presented to Kim Orteiza, a teacher for the Tuolumne County SELPA program. Five Students of the Year will also be honored.
The Chamber’s Annual Installation and Honors Banquet will be held at the Sonora Elks Lodge in Sonora.
Segarini notes plenty of new activity in the commercial realm that he attributes to business owners being confident in the market and willing to invest into the community. Segarini also credits the Economic Develoment Authority in being aggressive in bringing business to the county.
“Shop Locally” is the message Segarini wants delivered to the local population this holiday shopping season.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:46, 7:46 and 8:46am.
