Local Historical Organizations Honored

Sacramento, CA– Two Tuolumne County organizations dedicated to preserving our local history, have received the Governor’s Historic Preservation Award.


Established in 1986, these awards are presented annually under the sponsorship of the State Office of Historic Preservation and California State Parks to recognize meaningful achievements in historic preservation throughout California. Since the start of the program, more than 200 organizations, groups, and agencies have been recognized.


Nine preservation projects and two individuals were chosen recently for this prestigious honor and include the Tuolumne County Historic Preservation Review Commission and Department of Community Development for Keeping Time I through III. California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation for the Restoration of Sierra #3, the “Movie Star” Locomotive in Jamestown was also an award recipient.


Other winners include historical groups in Berkeley, Santa Clara, Los Angeles and San Diego.
