Columbia College’s Public Safety Center Officially Opens

Columbia, CA — The 2,900 square foot Public Safety Center on the Columbia College campus officially opened this morning with a 10:30am ribbon cutting ceremony.

The $2.8 million structure marks the first completed project of Ballot Measure E that was passed six years ago.

Groundbreaking for the expansion of the existing building took place June 16, 2008.

The completed facility will house firefighting and dispatch services along with campus security. The building contains a residential facility with separate quarters for men and women fire science students. The living area includes a commercial-sized kitched and a weight training room.

Operations of the Public Safety Center are conducted as a partnership of YCCD/Columbia College, CAL Fire and the Tuolumne County Fire Department.

The general contractor was Robert E. Boyer Construction of Twain Harte. Project management was handled by Kitchell, CEM of Modesto.
