Roller Derby Debuts in Tuolumne County
Sonora, CA — It is a first for Tuolumne County… an actual ladies roller derby bout this Saturday night!
Maria Hines (Coach Quad Queen) was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Hines is on the High Country Sports Arena board. Hines is also the arena’s figure skating coach and is now the new head coach for the still forming, ladies roller derby team.
“If a woman has the desire to play roller derby and is 18 year old or older, then we would like to talk with her about joining the team,” Hines said, “And as a skating coach, I can teach her how to skate as well.”
Although the local team isn’t ready to compete yet, the “High Country Hell Cats” will be introduced during the bout this Saturday night.
The bout itself will be between the Port City Roller girls of Stockton and the Sacred City Derby Girls of Sacramento.
The kick-off for this event begins at 6:30 and the night includes barbque tri tip sandwiches, a beer garden and a live band. The official bout begins at 8pm.
Tickets ($10 adult) are available at the door. For more information call (209) 588-0776
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning at 6;47, 7:47 and 8:47am on AM 1450 KVML.
