T.C. Supervisors Approve Proposed Budget
Sonora, CA — By a 4-1 vote the Tuolumne County supervisors approved the proposed 2009/10 fiscal budget just prior to the lunch break today.
Liz Bass cast the only dissenting voice stating, "This is a direct descendent of Prop. 13 in the 1970’s and I didn’t vote for Prop. 13. This is what they call a "starve the beast" kind of budget. I just disagree who the beast is. We need to spend more time on quality of life programs such as animal control and the Recreation Department. For those reason I’m going to vote no."
The proposed budget calls for the elimination of 99.7 county positions. CAO Craig Pedro has stated that 31 of those positions are related to VNA Hospice which is moving to the private sector, i.e., Sonora Regional Medical Center. Pedro is hopeful all those indivduals will be hired. That will leave 68 positions that will have to be dropped from the county payroll.
